WJFC’s 2021 Inaugural Indigenous Round (Friday 16th July)

It is with tremendous pride that we inform you that our Club will host its inaugural Indigenous Round to coincide with the Western Australian Football Commission NAIDOC celebrations for junior clubs, this Friday (16th July 2021).

In 2021, we will introduce the Wanneroo JFC first ever Indigenous Jumper designed by celebrated Indigenous artist Kevin Bynder. It has been a privilege for our club to work with Kevin who has been responsible for designing numerous AFL jumpers including the 2021 Fremantle Dockers. What this means for our players is that this weekend, every one of our Mods & Open’s players, male and female, will celebrate this occasion by wearing our very first WJFC Indigenous Jumper.

In addition to our Indigenous Jumper, the club is going to host a special celebration on the evening (Friday 16th July 2021) starting at 5:30pm for all club members/parents and guardians, sponsors and invited guests. We have organise a traditional ceremony with special Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and Aboriginal Dance and we believe this will be a special event never to be repeated. Our evening will be about inclusiveness, celebrating indigenous culture bringing awareness to the club’s Aboriginal history. Kevin Bynder will take to the microphone so we can hear about how the jumper was designed, what inspired the design and its cultural significance to the local area and community – this is something we want all of our players to hear about.

The club has reached out to a host of decorated current and ex AFL players to attend the club to be part of this special celebration with achievements that include Premiership Players (AFL & WAFL), Top 10 Draft picks, Fairest & Best Winners, 100 games plus WAFL players and a current Best First Year Player. This includes the likes of Des Headland, Dale Kickett, Jarrod Oakley-Nichols and Imahra Cohen.

As you can appreciate a lot of hard work and research has been put into this event. Your hard working committee has invested 100’s of hours in bringing this to life and it is events like this that separates our club from every other club. This is a history making event and we are urging you and your family to come down to the club to be part of our celebrations. We are sending a call to arms. We would love to see as many of you at the showgrounds as possible.

The event will commence at 5pm at the Wanneroo Showgrounds. Shortly after the ceremony we will have 2 Mod’s games and the night will conclude with our newly created Year 8 Team in there top of the table clash with Brighton.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at this history making event.

Go the Roos.
