All proceeds from the evening, including our raffle, will go directly to Breast Cancer Care WA, helping provide practical and emotional support to local women and families affected by breast cancer. 💝 Prize ideas include:

⭐ Women in Coaching Month Spotlight – Annelise Talbot Annelise Talbot is 22 years old and has been playing football since Year 7. Although she has always loved the game, she initially believed footy was only for boys until she joined the football academy at Mater Dei College. Coming from a family that lives and breathes football, the sport has always played a big role in her life and helped create strong family connections.
Away from the football field, Annelise is a newly graduated primary school teacher who is passionate about helping children learn and grow. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time at the beach, doing Pilates, and making memories with family and friends. 🏉 What do female coaches bring to junior sport? For Annelise, junior football is where players develop not only their skills but also their love for the game. She believes female coaches bring a unique perspective by focusing on the whole person, not just the athlete. “I often find myself coaching my girls through life just as much as I coach them through footy.” Annelise strives to be a positive leader and role model, helping her players develop confidence, kindness and resilience both on and off the field. Her goal is to see them grow into not only great footballers, but great people. 🏉 Challenges and growth Like many female coaches, Annelise has sometimes felt at a disadvantage because women have not historically had the same opportunities to play and be involved in football as long as their male counterparts.
Rather than letting this hold her back, she has embraced every opportunity to learn and develop. “I’ve handled that by continuing to learn, asking questions, taking every opportunity to upskill, and reminding myself that being a great coach is about so much more than how many years you’ve played.” 🏉 Supporting female coaches Annelise says she has felt incredibly supported during her coaching journey at Wanneroo. Access to training opportunities, coaching resources and a strong support network has helped build her confidence and develop her skills.

💗 WOMEN IN COACHING MONTH – CO-COACHING ROUND 💗 Wanneroo JFC is proud to support WA Football's Women in Coaching Month initiative! In Round 11 (24–26 July) we're encouraging mums, team managers, players and female volunteers to step into a coaching role and experience what it's like to lead a team—with the support of our existing coaches. 🏉 This is a fantastic opportunity to:
✅ Build confidence
✅ Learn new skills
✅ Give coaching a try in a supportive environment
✅ Inspire the next generation of female coaches Whether you've coached before or have never considered it, we'd love to see more women involved across our club. Women in Coaching Month – Female Coaches Spotlight: Zoe Clune 🖤🤍 Meet one of the inspiring women helping shape the next generation of footballers – Zoe Clune. Zoe is a proud mum to Boston (10) and Sloane (8), and together with her husband Ryan, football is a huge part of family life. Zoe coaches Sloane’s team while Ryan coaches Boston’s, making footy a true family affair. Away from the field, Zoe is the Women’s Player Welfare Manager at West Perth Football Club. With a background in youth mental health, wellbeing, education and athlete support, she has dedicated her career to helping people build resilience, confidence and strong relationships—qualities that naturally carry into coaching young athletes. Why Female Coaches Matter Zoe believes female coaches bring a valuable perspective that strengthens every coaching environment. “Any good coach will place a strong emphasis on communication, relationships and creating a sense of belonging, helping young athletes feel safe to learn, make mistakes and grow.” Representation also matters. When girls see women coaching, they can imagine themselves leading teams one day. At the same time, boys learn from an early age to respect and value female leaders. “Good coaching isn’t determined by gender, but increasing the number of female coaches broadens the experiences and role models available to all young athletes.”
@aflplay @wafooty Challenges and Growth Like many women in football, Zoe has occasionally experienced assumptions about traditional gender roles. “Most game days, the assumption is that I am the Team Manager. It doesn’t bother me, but it shows there’s still an assumption about gender roles in the sport.” Through authenticity, consistency and strong relationships, Zoe has earned the trust and respect of players, families and colleagues, supported by mentors who recognise the value female coaches bring to our game.
